About Us
Foundation for the Future is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging all girls to powerful, purposeful and passionate. As a newly emerging force within the nonprofit community, Foundation for the Future has established vital educational and self-esteem programs geared towards our next generation of young women, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas. Foundation for the Future’s, innovative programs and atypical educational approach help girls explore their self image, cultivate their character and pursue their dreams, and prepare them to be come dynamic community changing women.
Our History: Foundation for the Future was launched in January of 2010 as a legally recognized non-profit. In spite of it’s recent inception, Foundation for the Future was truly launched in the heart of it’s founder, Brittany King, years ago as she struggled with her own issues of self worth and purpose.
Programs -Foundation for the Future has developed informal and atypical education programs and forums that encourage girls to explore their dreams and confront their fears. Major programs address self- esteem, social responsibility, compassion, financial literacy, and overall character development.
National Board and CEO: Foundation for the Future is led by a dynamic group of women who are business leaders and community advocates who have partnered together to combine their intricate knowledge and network of skills.
Board Members
Brittany King Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Brittany King, F4F Founder and CEO, is driven by her compelling life story to become the founder of this dynamic organization. As a survivor of domestic abuse, Brittany has a true compassion for young women. As a human resources consultant and a current MBA candidate at the University of Houston, Brittany plans to use the combination of her business acumen and heart for people to propel this organization towards success. Brittany is a seasoned community advocate and the recipient of several prestigious awards including the President’s National Service Award in 2007, Dollars for Scholars graduate student scholarship, and an appointment to Inspire Women as an Ambassador. Brittany is a member of several professional associations including the Society for Human Resource Management and The National Society of Leadership and Success. Additionally, Brittany has utilized her passion for uplifting young adults in a variety of ways including teaching an elective course to middle and high school students about the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse. Brittany also serves as a community motivational and educational speaker with speaking topics ranging from financial management and college preparation, to personal success.
Barnetta Barnes, Vice Chair and Acting Board Chair
Barnetta F. Barnes is a Mississippi native, however she has called Texas home for over 12 years. Barnetta is a proud graduate of Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, and Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas with a Master of Business Administration with a dual concentration in Management and Finance.
Barnetta joined Foundation for the Future with over eleven years of corporate experience as an engineer, a banker, and consultant. Barnetta began volunteering as a mentor and tutor for a local elementary school while attending Prairie View. Barnetta started a volunteer program at Motorola, Inc where she worked as an engineer for nearly eight years. Barnetta later went on to work directly with children as a math teacher.
Barnetta’s passion for empowering females was heightened in 2007 when she was introduced to Vitiligo, a skin disorder that literally robs the body of its color, first brought to public attention by Michael Jackson. In the summer of 2009, Barnetta founded Mosaic Life Online, an Internet Media Company. The company is centered on a blog focusing on uplifting the spirit, improving the self-image, positive living, and Vitiligo awareness. Barnetta brings many of these basic cornerstones to Foundation for the Future, specifically improving the self-image of girls.
Kyana Martin, CPA , Treasurer
Kyana Martin began her career in public accounting with the 3rd largest, international public accounting firm in the world. During her years in public accounting, she designed and managed audits of both private and public companies. Mrs. Martin strives to stay current of recent pronouncements and standards to provide the best service to her clients. Her specialty is business advisory services with a focus on small businesses and non-profit organizations. She has a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M University in Accounting and Information Technology. She is a member of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and American Society of Women Accountants. She also serves as Co-President of her local chapter of Mocha Moms, Inc.
La Tasha Taylor, Secretary
La Tasha L. Taylor is founder of Virtual Paralegal and Virtual Legal Support. La Tasha was born in Natchez, Mississippi but raised in the “Bay Area” of California. Born with a spirit of determination and creativity, she knew she would embrace her entrepreneurial gifts to assist and empower others. La Tasha also loves the notion of one pursuing their talents and attaining ownership through their gifts thus, spawning her varied entrepreneurial endeavors. She likes to refer to herself as the unintentional motivational speaker where her conversations with people usually end up with some type of empowerment advice. La Tasha decided to pursue a career in the field of Law because she wanted to lend a hand at helping people she might have not otherwise had the opportunity to meet. La Tasha is a people’s person who learns by just speaking and interacting with others. She works diligently from her home assisting clients with requested projects and or assignments. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College located in Adelphi, Maryland. La Tasha is presently pursuing her MBA from the University of Phoenix. She has several years of legal experience working in the corporate sector and over ten years of administrative experience which includes managing and overseeing multiple company projects.
La Tasha is also co-editor of an on-line magazine, BEAUTIFULLY SAID. Each month the publication is geared towards providing enlightening and positive articles that African American women can use to enhance their lives. Her personal passion is writing. She believes there is nothing more freeing than to express yourself or the thoughts of others with just a simple pen and paper
La Tasha is an active mother of two and values family as her highest priority. La Tasha believes that “It really starts from the home.” She strives to be a constant source of encouragement to my her two sons, ages 10 and 3 respectively. Community involvement is very important in shaping who you become as a person and LaTasha wishes to lead by example so that her children have a foundation in which to start and or continue throughout their own lives.
“I have always wanted to be apart of an organization that would give back to the community” says Latasha.
Obianuju Egbuonu-Clarke, Board Member
Obianuju Egbuonu-Clarke is a Houston with Nigerian descent. After graduating Lamar High School in 2000, she headed to Nacogodoches, TX were she attended Stephen F. Austin State University. It was at SFA, that Oby pursed an accounting degree and had a strong desire to quickly put her new found skills to use. Immediately after graduating in 2004, she began working for American International Group doing financial reporting for their mutual fund products. After 2 years of great experience, she decided to take a senior role at DX Service also performing financial accounting services for Dixie Chemical Company. With the recent birth of her first daughter, she is inspired to encourage young people, especially young girls. Oby hopes to lead by example and offer any skills and talents that will make F4F a success.
Chiquandra Cross, Board Member
Chiquandra C. Cross, the CEO of Destiny Consulting Services, caters to and specializes in personal development coaching and small business, non-profit and entrepreneurial consulting. Ms. Cross’s expertise in the non-profit community is grant consulting, grant compliance, state & federal filing assistance, fundraising, development planning along with training and development for non-profit Board of Directors and team members. Chiquandra’s small business/entrepreneurial coaching increases client work productivity, streamlines and automates areas of work and fosters master communication on all levels of your business. Ms. Cross is often called upon for her personal development coaching skills which is a specific measurable progress program that her clients establish for long range success and complete fulfillment and balance in all areas of life. Clients of Ms. Cross at Destiny Consulting Services include WALIPP-TSU Charter School, Compro Tax(Houston), ABC Body Art, Size Sexy Divas, and Intervention and Prevention Awareness Programs (IPAP).
Chiquandra Cross is a graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Chiquandra is also a Certified Compass Coach™ coaching women to winning personal and team performances. Ms. Cross has been published in
The Professional Business Women’s and is a business trend writer for Trendsetters to Trendsetters Magazine.
Julia Gaona, Board Member
Julia Gaona, a soon to be graduate of Medical School as a respiratory therapist, brings a history of dedication to the community and a commitment to service. As a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and soon to be graduate of UTMB, Julia brings knowledge of the intricate needs of the minority communities, namely the Hispanic community.
Nikki Johnson, Board Member
Nikki Johnson is a social media expert and our designated technical guru. As the founder of her own business Bold New Adventures, Nikki understand the importance of encouraging entrepreneurship in our communities.
La Trisha LaNae’ Taylor, Board Member
La Trisha LaNae’ Taylor is Co-Owner and overseer of production for all Beautifully Said business and financials. She is also the owner and designer of Tula Couture a dynamic fashion forward jewelry and beauty business was born in Natchez, Mississippi but raised in the “Bay Area” of California. Tula Couture has been featured on Coloredpeople.net, Thrifty Fifty, and Waking Passion Blog Talk Radio Shows and is currently the premier jewelry designer for the upcoming Guilty Pleasure Cosmetics Fashion Show.
Beautifully Said has been featured in Artheo Megazine, and as a guest on the Diana Bloomfield blog talk radio show.
Along with ownership duties, La Trisha is also active in contributing to quality articles and conducting interviews with featured guest of the magazine. The articles in which she has written have generated an active buzz from Beautifully Said followers.
Through her love of writing La Trisha has steadily built a fan base with the inspirational quotes that she writes. Presently she is compiling quotations to present in book format for those that have followed her work.
